The PRO 31 was designed by Audio Technica specifically for close-up vocal use. This a high-output microphone, meant to capture all the subtle nuances of a vocal performances; nuances that many other microphones in this price range neglect. Since the PRO 31 is meant for close miking, major concerns to Audio Technica during the design phase were breath noise and popping. These issues were resolved by involving a two-stage screen, which helps to eliminate these unwanted types of sounds immensely. The PRO 31 also features a silent on/off Magnalock designed switch.
