Child Size & Travel Electric Guitars

Electric Guitars  >  Child Size & Travel Electric Guitars
Learning to play guitar can be a frustrating endeavor, even as an adult. Younger beginners have harder luck, trying to get their arms and body to fit to a full size guitar. Many possible musicians give up early simply because they were forced to use a guitar that wasn't designed for them and their particular needs.  You wouldn't expect your child to learn on a full size bike right? Then why put a child into a full size guitar if it is too big.  How do you know which right?  After 15 years in business, we have come to this conclusion, a child size guitar is more about body size and "reach" rather than if their hands can fit around the neck.  The thickness and width of the neck are not that much different.  The strings can only be so close together.  This is how it works. A 3/4 size guitar stops a few frets short of where a full size guitar does, and a 1/2 size guitar proportionately the same.  Also a slightly smaller body brings the guitar down to size for a child.  Junior guitars for kids tune differently.  A 3/4 size guitar tunes to a G, and a 1/2 size guitar tunes to an A. If you try to tune it like a regular guitar (tuned to E) you might get each string in tune, but it will never sound in tune due to a thing called intonation.  It just wont work. We recomend 1/2 size guitars to kids who are maybe 3-6 years old, and 3/4 size guitars to kids 5-7.  At about 8 years old if your child is of average size, they are borderline and would grow into a full size guitar. If you child is an average 9 or 10 year old, we recomend clicking over to full size guitars.  We hope this helps in your selection and do not hesitate to call if you are unsure.
