The
1957 introduction of the
classic WEATHERKING™ line
established Remo as the
worldwide drumhead leader.
Remo has developed an
incredible array of drumheads
to fit every drumming
application by utilizing the
most advanced technologies.
Each drumhead is engineered to
meet the diverse needs of
drumset players in country,
jazz, rock, pop, R&B,
hip-hop, Latin, metal, and
every other style imaginable.
In addition, specific
drumheads have been created to
meet the specific needs of
marching, concert, and world
percussion fields. Remo heads
offer more coatings,
proprietary laminations,
finishes, types, weights, and
available sizes in order to
provide the sound, look, and
feel that meet the
discriminating needs of the
world’s top drummers.
WEATHERKING™
Remo’s original WEATHERKING™
series launched the modern
drum era with the introduction
of its DIPLOMAT™, AMBASSADOR™,
and EMPEROR™ drumheads.
Their full rich, tones have
made these classic heads the
drumhead standard since their
1957 introduction. They are
the preferred factory-supplied
drumheads by almost all
drumset manufacturers in the
world. WEATHERKING™ heads
are used equally in live
performances or studio
recording, and are ideal for
concert, jazz, rock & pop.
The
DIPLOMAT™, AMBASSADOR™,
and EMPEROR™ names are so
widely understood they’re
also commonly used to describe
drumhead weights. Remo’s
brightest sounding DIPLOMAT™
uses a single layer of 7.5 mil
(.0075") Mylar® film. An
AMBASSADOR™ head uses a
slightly thicker 10 mil
(.010") single ply film
while the most durable EMPEROR™
uses two 7 mil films together.
These principal drumheads come
in three standard finishes,
from the brightest sounding
clear to the darkest sounding
coated, with the smooth white
finish a middling sound
between clear and coated.
These standard weights and
finishes are the basis for how
modern drumheads are
described.
In
addition for film advancement,
Remo’s use of modern
technologies and innovation
continues in the area of flesh
hoop designs. A
"one-size-fits-all"
philosophy makes as much sense
to Remo for flesh hoops as
does one type of film for all
drumming applications. There
are specially constructed
flesh hoops for drumsets,
marching, tympani heads,
pre-tuned PTS™ heads, and 11
different construction types
for World Percussion heads.
