In 1951, Fender released the first-ever electric bass guitar - the Precision Bass. Also known as the "P-Bass," this new instrument would soon revolutionize the industry and play a large role in establishing the Fender legacy. In 1960, Fender designed and released a new electric bass guitar model - the Jazz Bass. Commonly referred to as the "J-Bass," the Jazz Bass is more stylized than the P-Bass, featuring a Jazzmaster-esque offset body shape. Aesthetics aside, the Jazz bass also features more "punchy" midrange-heavy pickups and a narrower, more rounded neck.
