USED 1968 Gibson SG Vibrola Special With Original Case
You are looking at guitar number: 528089
This original Gibson SG Vibrola was crafted at the Kalamazoo Gibson factory in 1968. It was later updated with aftermarket 1960’s Pat. Pending Grover tuners. This Gibson Vibrola is a classic piece of gibson craftsmanship. Immortalized by Santana at Woodstock and smashed onstage by Townshend, the Gibson SG is a rock icon. Gibson's Kalamazoo plant was the original Gibson plant and put out guitars for many of the SG’s biggest players. This guitar is sure to take you back to the glory years of Rock, Blues, and even Country. The Gibson Vibrola is the device which was the successor to the Maestro systems. It debuted in 1962 on some SGs and, rather than moving up and down, it primarily moves side to side to achieve its vibrato effects. The ’62 Vibrola lever also attaches to the side of the tailpiece, rather than the top. Initially this device had tuning issues similar to the Maestro, but in 1963 it was revamped as the Gibson Deluxe Vibrola and adopted the same up-and-down arm action as the Bigsby, but with a sleek cover plate. The improved Gibson Vibrola first appeared in 1964 as an option for the ES-335 and was standard equipment on the 1967 Flying V, a model year immortalized by Jimi Hendrix. This is a phenomenal chance to own your piece of rock history: the Gibson Vibrola SG Special.
This Guitar has been played for years and well loved and is in great shape. There are minor dents and scratches on the fron and back from over half a century of play. There is on spot on the back with belt rash that has worn through the finish as pictured. It also comes with the original Gibson case that came with the guitar.
